This week’s clock is, per our weekly cuckoo-clock review committee’s consensus, the strongest mid-tier 8-day-movement clock currently on display in downtown. The hand-carved cuckoo presents convincing painted feather detail. The hourly cuckoo-call is, by the committee’s field test, sufficiently audible at twelve feet from the cabinet to satisfy a buyer’s expectation but not so loud as to dominate a small living room.
The Stadtkirchner & Söhne movement is, per the manufacturer’s published specifications, accurate to within ± four minutes per week. The committee verified, on the showroom floor, that the displayed clock had not deviated by more than two minutes from the store’s reference Atomic-clock display in the period since the previous Monday’s review.
Recommended for: a serious entry into the cuckoo-clock category, a 50th-birthday gift, the second cuckoo clock in a household that already has one and is, in that household’s view, ready for a second.
